🛒 Ingredients

  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup (50g) cocoa powder (unsweetened)
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup (150g) sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup (120ml) vegetable oil
  • ½ cup (120ml) milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup (120ml) hot water or hot coffee
  • ½ cup chocolate chips (optional)

🔪 Instructions

1. Prep

  • Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F)
  • Line or grease a loaf pan

2. Mix dry ingredients

  • In a bowl, whisk together:
    • Flour
    • Cocoa powder
    • Baking soda
    • Salt

3. Mix wet ingredients

  • In another bowl, whisk:
    • Eggs
    • Sugar
    • Oil
    • Milk
    • Vanilla

4. Combine

  • Gradually add dry ingredients into wet mixture
  • Mix until smooth (don’t overmix)

5. Add liquid

  • Slowly stir in hot water or coffee
  • Batter will be thin — this is normal

6. Optional add-ins

  • Fold in chocolate chips if using

7. Bake

  • Pour batter into loaf pan
  • Bake for 45–55 minutes
  • Check with a toothpick — it should come out clean

8. Cool & serve

  • Let cool in pan for 10–15 minutes
  • Transfer to rack and cool completely before slicing
